Marigold Extract Lutein 20% is a carotenoid with the chemical formula C40H56O2. It is widely found in vegetables, fruits, flowers and other plants. Its chemical formula contains two ketone rings and is the main pigment present in the macular area of the retina of the human eye.
In green plants, lutein act as modulate light energy and serve as a non-photochemical quenching agents to deal with triplet chlorophyll (an excited form of chlorophyll), which is over produced at very high light levels, during photosynthesis.
